What every musician invoice needs
Venues pay faster when the invoice is easy to approve. Six things do most of the work: who you are and how to pay you, the venue's name, the date you performed, exactly what you're billing for, the total minus any deposit, and a due date. If a venue's accounts payable runs on net-30, say so on the invoice instead of chasing it later.
Number your invoices sequentially (INV-2026-001, -002) so your own bookkeeping and taxes stay sane, and keep a copy of every one you send.
When to invoice a venue
For bar and restaurant gigs, send the invoice the morning after the show while you're fresh in the manager's memory. For weddings, corporate and private events, invoice a deposit (25–50%) at booking and the balance the week of the event — a signed agreement plus a deposit invoice is what separates artists who get paid on time from artists who chase.
